More than 1,400 pupils from Edinburgh schools took part in the eighth BAA Edinburgh Airport Youth Games last month and sealed themselves a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Hosted by Edinburgh Leisure, the games, the city’s largest youth sporting event, saw children from 44 schools meet for competitions in athletics, basketball, gymnastics, hockey, volleyball, golf, swimming, football, boccia and rugby – and concluded with a successful attempt to break the record for the most people – 1,289 – simultaneously bouncing a basketball.

The Youth Games are intended to showcase sport and physical activity and encourage Edinburgh’s young people to get involved and stay involved in sport.

This year, the event was themed around ‘your health’ to raise awareness of the health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity.
