Zambia to benefit from UK equipment donation
A lorry load of spare and unused sports equipment has begun its journey from the UK to Africa, where it will be donated to young people in Zambia.
A partnership between the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM), Global Gear Drive and the Universities Sporting Partnership collected the equipment from operators and sports clubs around the country.
Ian Wakefield, business development manager at the ISRM said: "I have been overwhelmed by the response from the industry. We've had donations from companies like Life Fitness, Technogym, Maude Sport and Nautilus, who have given fitness equipment which will be used in Lusaka to raise money for buying more sports equipment.
"We’ve also had donations from National Governing Bodies and the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) as well as equipment from ISRM members in leisure centres around the UK.
"The equipment we have collected will make a significant difference to the communities in Zambia."
