easyJet summer update
In a summer trading update, budget airline, easyJet has reported trading for the quarter to 30 June as being in line with the company’s 7 May outlook statement.
Load factor at the group was 84.8 per cent, up 1.8 per cent on the figure for the corresponding period last year. Passenger numbers for the period rose 98 per cent to 5.223m, in line with the planned increase in capacity.
However, the average fare achieved for the quarter was down 2.8 per cent on the same period last year to £46.08, although this was an improvement on the fall seen in the group’s first half.
Commenting on summer trading, easyJet chief executive, Ray Webster, said: "We have had a good summer to date and the current level of forward bookings for the remainder of the financial year is showing strong growth. However, to achieve our full profit potential we remain highly dependent upon the final quarter’s trading in market conditions of continuing uncertainty."
On expansion of the group’s network, he said: "Over 80 airports responded to our tender and a shortlist has been drawn up from which we will select those to support our planned continental Europe expansion." Details: www.easyjet.com
