Hilton Hotels Corporation has opened its $100m (71m euro,£61m) theWit hotel - part of its Doubletree portfolio - in downtown Chicago, US.

Operated and developed by Chicago-based ECD-Great Street, under a franchise license agreement, theWit is the 10th Doubletree hotel to open in the greater Chicagoland area and the brand's 10th city centre hotel to open in the last year. The 27-storey hotel has 238 guest rooms in addition to 60 suites, equipped with kitchens. The hotel also offers a $1m (0.7m euro, £0.6m) multi-media theatre, 7,000sq ft space for meetings, two restaurants: one of which is due to open later this summer and a 2,449sq ft fitness suite equipped by Precor. Scott Greenberg, president of the ECD Company, said: "'We are extremely proud to introduce theWit as part of the rebirth of Chicago's State Street. The nearby Block 37 mixed-use development is nearing completion, and the neighborhood recently celebrated the opening of The Joffrey Ballet's new Tower. New retail stores, residential towers, theatres and attractions abound nearby.
