£10m hostel conversion opens in Edinburgh
A youth hostel in Edinburgh has opened today following a £10m conversion of a former office block on Leith Walk.
Edinburgh Central hostel will be run by the Scottish Youth Hostel Association (SYHA), has more than 300 beds and took 18 months to complete. It will be the flagship site of the SYHA.
Situated on the corner of Annadale Street and Haddington Palce, the hostel features the first licensed bar opened by the SYHA and an upmarket restaurant alongside flat-screen televisions in the foyer, wi-fi internet access, single, twin and family rooms and en-suite facilities throughout.
The hostel also boasts 24-hour access, conference and meeting facilities plus the more traditional cooking and laundry areas.
Edinburgh Central is the largest investment by the SYHA since the £1m revamp of its Glasgow Youth Hostel in 2004.
SYHA chief executive Keith Legge said: “The opening of Edinburgh Central is just one example of how the SYHA continues to respond to our customers and the local community by identifying needs and improving services.” Details: www.syha.org.uk
