£1m upgrade for Oasis Sports Centre
Oasis Sports Centre in Camden, north London, is to undergo a £1m refurbishment after the local authority agreed to fund the scheme in a bid to improve its two swimming pools and changing facilities.
Work is already underway on a six-month project to replace the facility's existing boilers with new energy efficient devices, which is expected to improve water and air temperatures, before a revamp is carried out of the indoor swimming pool and male and female changing areas. Meanwhile, the centre's fitness suite re-opened on 12 May following the installation of new equipment, including seven treadmills stretching machines supplied by technogym, matting areas and resistance machines.
Flick Rea, the council's executive member for culture, said: "We know that Oasis is a valuable sports and fitness facility for Camden residents. That's why we are investing in its future. "Giving the centre a bit of a facelift now and carrying out work on the changing rooms and swimming pools later this year will really improve services, and all at no extra cost to Camden's council taxpayers."
Oasis Sports Centre is operated on behalf of the council by Greenwich Leisure, and offers an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a sauna, squash courts, a health suite and a café-bar.
