£22m of leisure facilities for Oxford Football Club
Work has started on the next phase of the redevelopment of the land surrounding Oxford United Football Club.
Owned by hotelier and developer, Firoz Kassam, the next stage will cost £22m and see the development of 200,000sq ft of leisure which includes bowling, bingo, a night club, a 9-screen cinema and a health and fitness centre.
Kassam whose company the Firoka Group owns the second largest Holiday Inn Hotel in Europe and Europe's largest Express by Holiday Inn, bought Oxford United FC in 1998. As chairman of the club, Kassam has overseen the development of the £15m Kassam stadium, which opened at the end of 2001 as well as a 162-room hotel, which opened on the grounds earlier this month at a cost of £8m.
Negotiations are underway with a number of operators and the scheme is due to complete next year. Details: +44 (0)7768 763525
