£46m Life Centre will not include ice rink
The £46m Life Centre in Plymouth will now definitely not include an ice rink, contrary to original suggestions, the city council has announced.
When the city's Plymouth Pavilions closes next year, skaters will be left without a local ice rink - the nearest will be in Bristol and Swindon.
Plans for a rink were talked about in the discussion phase of the Life Centre but they were never included in the official proposal. However, the council has said it has allocated money to put towards new skating facilities in future.
When it opens in autumn next year, the Life Centre will boast a leisure pool with flumes, beach entry and a bubble pool; a climbing zone with a 15m (49ft) wall and aerial assault course; an eight-lane bowls centre and a 12-court, multi-use sports hall.
A 150-station fitness suite; a 10-lane, Olympic-sized swimming pool with moveable floors and submersible boom; a diving pool; multi-purpose areas for dance and martial arts and a youth gym also form part of the plans, as well as a sauna and a steamroom.
In May, England Netball committed to invest £200,000 in the centre to further its potential as a Regional and County Netball Centre.
