£500,000 upgrade for Erskine pool
Work has started on a £500,000 project to revamp a swimming pool in Erskine, Renfrewshire, as part of the local authority's wider £92m investment programme.
Erskine Swimming Pool is set to include a new changing village, a poolside sauna, a vanity area and a reception and viewing area as part of the renovation, which is due for completion by June. The scheme will form part of Renfrewshire Council's Building Better Communities initiative, which will see the creation of sports hubs at Linwood Sports Centre (£24.1m) and the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley (£7.1m).
Clark Contracts has been appointed to carry out the work at Erskine Swimming Pool by the council, which is also planning to build new sports facilities as part of the £33.7m Parks Mains High School. Renfrewshire Council leader Derek Mackay said: "This major investment marks an important first step in delivering Renfrewshire Council's ambitious £92m investment in communities across Renfrewshire.
"There's been a lot of hard work to get to this stage and now we are beginning to see the investment taking shape." Councillor Iain Nicolson, chair of Renfrewshire Leisure Board, added: "The new and modernised leisure and sports venues will deliver the high quality facilities that people expect."
