£5.6m coastal plan for Anglesey
A new £5.6m coastal development initiative has been launched in a bid to capitalise on a range of new opportunities for tourism and leisure activities on the island of Anglesey in North Wales.
Funding for the Anglesey Coastal Environment Project has been provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF); the Welsh Assembly Government's Môn a Menai Programme and Targeted Match Fund and the Isle of Anglesey County Council (IACC). Projects that will be targeted as part of the scheme include the promotion of a strong local sea-based leisure interest, the preservation of Anglesey's maritime culture and heritage and improve the island's appeal as a tourist destination.
It is hoped that the initiative will provide a boost for the island's economy through the use of the natural environment and coastal resources, while also creating new jobs in the maritime leisure sector. IACC leader Clive McGregor said: "This significant investment will help us exploit the economic potential of the natural environment and embrace the many opportunities linked to Anglesey's coastline.
"The county council will now use this funding to develop a number of innovative activities at key, strategic locations around the coastline of Anglesey."
