£5m revamp of Aqua Vale leisure centre mooted
Aqua Vale leisure centre in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, could receive a £5.4m makeover after district councillors discussed the results of a feasibility study into potential improvements to the county’s leisure facilities.
The study, carried out by Faulkner Brown, identified a number of improvements that could be made to the Aqua Vale site, and also £2.4m worth of changes made to Buckingham’s Swan Pool and Leisure Centre.
Development options at Aqua Vale include an extended fitness suite, a new café, new changing facilities, a sliding roof for the outdoor pool, an enlarged reception area and increased parking.
Swan Pool could receive a new dance/exercise studio, improved sauna and steamroom facilities, new changing rooms, a new café and an extension of the crèche.
David Thompson, cabinet member for leisure at Aylesbury Vale District Council, said: “New facilities at Aqua Vale and Swan Pool would be exciting news for the district and this report makes it clear there is definitely a need for improvements.
“It is essential that we improve our leisure provision to meet the growing needs of an expanding Aylesbury Vale as it continues to develop. The next few months will involve council officers looking at the options available to fund the development work.”
