Library internet projects receive financial boost
The Council has launched the People's Network Excellence Fund for Museums Archives and Libraries to support public library ICT projects.
Libraries can use the monies to showcase the People's Network project to connect all UK public libraries to the Internet. The project is managed by Resource and funded through the New Opportunities Fund.
'Library staff are already demonstrating their considerable skills in implementing ICT through the People's Network; the Excellence Fund will provide a chance for them to show what may be done in the future,' said Chris Batt, acting chief executive for Resource.
The Excellence Fund expects to support between 10 and 20 projects and will be open to any public library service in England. 'Systems and adaptive technology for computers can be used in so many different, creative and exciting ways,' said Stephen Dunmore, chief executive of the New Opportunities Fund.
The closing date for applications is Friday 8 March 2002. Full details are available online at http://ww.peoplesnetwork.gov.uk
