Ishga phases out plastic packaging for eco-friendly alternative

Ishga, a luxury skincare brand specialising in organic seaweed products, has announced plans to

completely phase out its plastic packaging, replacing it with sustainable alternatives. in a bid to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering the oceans.

The brand, which is certified organic by the Soil Association in line with COSMOS standards, carried out a comprehensive review of its products, packaging and manufacturing processes in 2018, and is now implementing changes in the company based on the results.

The first phase will see new product launches, including the Uplifting Body Spray and the Hydrating Hand Cream, packaged in 100 per cent recyclable materials, with frosted glass bottles with aluminum caps, atomiser sprays and dispensers.

Ishga will also replace the the plastic jars, used to house its Anti-Oxidant Marine Cream, Exfoliating Face Mask, Hebridean Sea Salt Scrub and Men's Marine Cream, with frosted glass jars with aluminium lids. The new packaging is 100 per cent recyclable while maintaining the brand's luxurious aesthetic.

The brand, which sustainably sources and produces its products in the Scottish Hebrides, will also phase out the use of laminated product boxes and has eliminated the use of latex gloves, wet wipes and bubble wrap in its manufacturing processes, replacing them with biodegradable gloves, shredded paper and biodegrable wet wipes.

The company has also stopped using plastic buckets, used to house its professional range, trading them in for biodegradable paper bags.
